Ryan and I went to see Cars the other day. What a great movie. I am continually amazed at the technical skills that PIXAR puts into its movies. Now it's no secret that I'm a huge NASCAR fan...so I was watching to see just how much they connected with the whole 'racing scene.' I have to admit...those boys did their homework! From Waltrip's, "boggity, boogity, boogity boys, let's go racin'," to the disdain that those who love formula racing (Guido) have for stock car racing....it was all there.
In my humble opinion, Larry the Cable Guy steals the entire show as 'Mater.' I was at Wal-Mart a few weeks back and saw some 'Cars' stuffed pillows. They had plenty of Lightning McQueen and Doc Hudson, but only ONE Mater! My favorite line in the movie is Mater's, "I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park."
There are several underlying themes in the movie ('It's not just about knowing where you're going, it's about where you've been.' 'It's not just about one person....you need a team of others to help you succeed.' 'What are you going to do to help make a difference where you are?') This movie hits on all cylinders and there are so many great things under the hood. The great voice talent, the musical soundtrack is perfect (especially Rascal Flatt's redux of "Life Is A Highway"), the car parts you notice in the landscape. I especially appreciated the tribute (or should that be tri'butte') to the buried cadillacs. To miss the chance to see this movie would be like running out of gas on the final lap. So, pit...er, I mean hit the dollar movie while it' still running (trust me - it would be worth the full ticket price!) and enjoy this great american laughfest.
