Woo Hoo!

Yesterday I went to a youth leader's training event. Jeanne Mayo was the speaker. She has been in youth ministry for 37+ years and had some awesome things to share. She talked about having four key things to have a youth ministry with significance. I will explain a little about each, but will elaborate on one that peaked within me today.
1. A sense of Destiny.
- Destiny is not something far off. It is this day and this hour. What we do now shapes the future.
2. A sense of Childhood.
- Fun childhood stuff appeals to youth.
- Child likeness....not childishness.
3. A sense of militancy.
- Something larger to fight & pay the price for.
- Not just training them in the Christianity, but also giving them opportunities to use what they've learned.
4. A sense of family.
- Create an environment of welcome and belonging, where people know that they matter and are cared about.

Now, I served this weekend, singing with the vocal worship team. When I left on Sunday, it had just snowed and the parking lot was a little icy. I was parked way in the boonies and well....I couldn't help myself. I had to do a donut. It felt good, so I did another, and another. Well, all total I did four. Someone drive by as I did one and I'm sure they were wondering why I was doing it, but I didn't care. I WAS HAVING FUN! I felt like a kid again, and drove out onto the street feeling like I had just won a NASCAR race and that was my post race celebration. So, I would have to say, I think I have a good grasp on point number two. WooHoo!!!
