Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Monday was Labor Day...but I owuld rather think of it as 'Labor of Love Day.' My dad loves to watch the Silverhawks play. He's been to 'The Cove,' many times over the years. But his cancer has made it very difficult to do so this summer. Well thanks to Mayor Steve Luecke and the City of South Bend, my dad got to see the last home game for the season. Not just from any ordinary spot at the stadium, but from the Suite that is owned by the City! The suite was great because it allowed my dad (and family) to have an incredible view, easy access to an 'in-suite' bathroom and no stairs to contend with. PLUS, it was Dollar Monday,so everything was easily affordable. Dad got some special visitors too. Like Swoop....The former Silverhawks mascot....and former Governor (now Silverhawks co-owner) Joe Kernan. My brothers and sister and the rest of the family were there to share the day. The 'hawks lost by one, after a valiant ninth inning rally, but we didn't mind. We all got to hang out with our dad and it was a day none of us will ever forget.
