This is my son Ryan. He is in the midst of his first year of college at Ivy Tech. He is also the newest addition to the world of full time employment. Last week he started a new job at Performance Plastics, working quality control. He is working the night shift from 10pm to 6am. He comes home from work each day, spends 2 hours at home, leaves for college (a 90 minute class each day), comes back and eats something and then heads off to bed. Eight hours later, he starts the process all over again....until the weekend.
Well, the other day he came home from work and fell asleep. He was having some difficulty waking up and getting off to college, so I had to go 'assist' him in getting up. After spending a couple minutes encouraging him to get up, he sprang out of bed uttering those immortal words we all have spoken at some time or another: "I HATE WORK!" I had to laugh. Just two days before he was telling me how much he liked his job. Well, having been in that place and state of mind, I understood what he meant. But despite his lack of both motivation and free time...he got up, got ready and off he went.
I really must say that I am so very proud of Ryan! He understands his responsibilities and he meets them. I see pictures on the walls of our home of the boy he used to be. He was sweet, mischievous, inventive and ever the funny guy. I look at him now and see those same qualities....but now contained within the body of a young man who has so much talent and potential. I look forward to the coming years, watching that man become so much more. A man of integrity. Filled with a love for God, a sense of responsibility and a good work ethic. You go Ryan!
